Health

In general, most patients with decent health are a good candidates. There are a few conditions that can decrease the chance of success in implants:  Smokers, and uncontrolled diabetics have worse healing, as the mechanisms of wound healing in your body become compromised. Every individual is different however, and Dr.Akmal will assess your specific health concerns and create a plan that will best bring you back into proper function.

The Consultation

At the implant Consultation, Dr. Akmal will spend the time to assess your individual status, in terms of health, your specific anatomical consideration, and the needs you are trying to fulfill. This will allow him to come up with an individualized treatment plan suited to you and your specific concerns.

 

Current Bone

To place an implant, an adequate amount of bone is necessary. Some patients who have had a traumatic extraction, or have been missing their teeth for an extended period , may have lost bone in the area. If this is the case. Dr.Akmal may need to rebuild the bone at the site first prior to, or at the time of implant placement. Additionally your current anatomy, such as low sinus cavities, or proximity to major nerves, may require additional consideration. Dr.Akmal will go over these specific aspects pertinent to you at your consultation.

Unfortunately sometimes, there is too much destruction, and the implant may have to be removed.
